Impact of Access to Telecoms

From the information found I understand that the two countries in Europe have very good coverage of Internet hosts and users also this continues with the Telephone- land line and the mobile. The most likely reason this is that the country has money to spend on these things to improve whereas countries such as Somalia and the Central African Republic don't have great telecoms. This could be because they lack in the development of telecoms which is the case with the Central African Republic or they have had disasters such as wars which is Somalia's problem. Also another reason is that the country itself has far greater problems to fix first such as poverty and these are the countries main priority to fix these.

E-Government & the Digital Divide

E-Government & the Digital Divide

Information Services

1

I think that Information Services are the most useful to the consumer because websites such as DirectGov contain thousands of webpages dedicated to help anyone. From knowing how to get a provisional driving licence to caring for a family member.

Online Reporting and Advice

2

Instead of going to a physical place such as the Town Hall for advice on things such as Bin collection times you can simply just check on the internet also you can get lots more information.

Online Payments

3

I think online payments are useful but not as useful as things such as Information Services and Online Reporting and Advice. Being able to make payments online has become a huge thing without it the world would be a different place with people ordering things online every day.

Online Booking

4

Online booking is useful also as it allows you to make appointments for things like Doctors and Dentists without having to call up or visit the location. Also it is useful as it can send you reminders through your email so you know exactly when your appointment is. However I think it is the least useful as you can easily just call up and note down when your appointment is.

The Risks of E-Mail

E-mails can be sent to anyone with an E-mail address. Some people use systematic methods in order to obtain peoples e-mail addresses. This can include giving untrusted websites you e-mail address or from website mailing lists containing thousands of E-mails. Everyday people set out to find these E-mail addresses in order to send them a range of different things. Most commonly scams are used as it can be an easy way to trick vulnerable people out of their money. Other ways include viruses, worms, spyware and adware. Sometimes this can be worse as you don’t know that it is actually happening. These viruses swarm into your computer and look for specific pieces of information that can be used to target you. However these attacks happen every day they can easily be avoided. Never give your E-mail address to a company you don’t trust. If you receive an E-mail from someone who you don’t recognise just delete it. Using Anti- Virus software should detect the viruses if you happen to open a link containing one.
